VENICE FESTIVAL AND MILAN FASHION WEEK

This year I will miss it, my youngest son has started playing Football (American Football!!) and I did not want to miss these moments, however Devin Devasquez and Ronn Moss, will be dressed up in all JT Haute Couture, on the red Carpet on September they 8th (tomorrow!), stay tuned on Instagram!

I will be then in Milan for the fashion week and back in my beloved Florence. By the way, the preview of Fall Winter Collection 2023-2024 is already on my website. But now let’s talk about Florence!

FLORENCE...my sempre Bella Firenze

It is filling up again as holiday-makers finish their ferie (vacations), and things really get moving again in the city! Temperatures veer away from the heatwaves we’ve endured this summer, and it’s a month of “restart,” meaning Florence is buzzing with energy. I can’t wait to get out there and feel inspired!

Before we get into what’s going on in the city, a little bit of news from Florence: a high-speed new station is set to be built, meaning transport will be greatly changed in the city. Expected to be completed by 2028, the Firenze Belfiorestation will mean quicker connections and improved quality of public transport. Good news for both the Florence-based and future visitors!

And now onto some of the best events this month! Firenze Jazz Festival(www.firenzejazzfestival.it) is no doubt one of the most popular music events on the Florentine events calendar. Taking place till September 5, it sees some of the biggest Italian and international jazz stars perform in some of the city’s most stunning spaces. A highlight is no doubt the raft that takes to the Arno river near Ponte Vecchio, featuring top-caliber musicians playing while floating on the water. An unforgettable auditory experience!

Palazzo Vecchio has a surprise waiting too, as works by Liu Bolin, the “invisible artist”, can be seen in the Sala d’Arme until September 18. Titled Hiding in Florence, you’ll have fun spotting the artist camouflaged against some famous backdrops like piazza della Signoria, blending into the instantly recognizable monuments.

Craft lovers will adore Artigianato e Palazzo (www.artigianatoepalazzo.it) from September 15-17, when exquisite creations are brought by their makers to Giardino Corsini. The glorious setting is reason enough to visit, made all the more unmissable by the top-quality craftsmanship. There’s a range of events from workshops to food stalls so it’s a guaranteed day of fun for all.

The end of September marks grape harvest time in Tuscany as wine tastings and more come to the fore. There’s even a dedicated tradition devoted to new wine as the Carro Matto comes to town on September 29. Literally meaning “crazy cart”, it’s a wagon loaded with around 2,000 flasks of wine pulled by two white oxen. Dating back to Renaissance times when wine was brought from the nearby town of Rufina to piazza della Signoria to be officially blessed, you’ll catch the historical court of the Florentine republic parading in all their splendor, with flag-wavers and even a cannon adding to the sense of occasion.

Why not make the most of the recently ripened grapes to make schiacciata con l’uva, a traditional Tuscan treat that is typically served in early autumn? Baked with grapes, it’s a simple (but delicious!) combination of flour, sugar, brewer’s yeast, red grapes, extra virgin olive oil and salt. You’ll find it in forni (bakeries) all through Florence, with its scent ushering in the start of the new season.

As we settle into September, I wish you all a great month!

Yours,

Jennifer
